Tiger Nut Benefits

Are you one of those curious people who enjoy discovering new things, especially those related to their health? Ever thought of tiger nut? The fact is, tiger nut isn’t actually a nut but rather a tuber that grows beyond the ground surface. It is believed to possess all of the nutrients of a nut and much more, having no adverse effect or consisting of any component that might cause allergies.

When something seems too good to be true, most of the time, it usually is. Tiger nuts are believed to be incredibly healthy for the body: preventing heart attacks, thrombosis, promoting blood circulation, regulating abnormal menstruation, reducing colon cancer, strengthening veins and even acting as a natural aphrodisiac.

Tiger nuts, also known as ‘atadwe’ and abundant in Ghana, have this nutty milky taste. They can be consumed in any of the following forms: raw, roasted, baked or as oil. Another way to enjoy this wonder king is to soak the tubers, blend and strain the milk out to get a very refreshing and delicious tiger nuts milk, commonly known as Horchata de chufas in Spanish. If you’re feeling adventurous, you may add coconut, cinnamon or ginger to your milk.

The oil of tiger nut is also believed to be rival to olive oil and has great benefits for the skin as it is said to reduce wrinkles.

Please note that there is no strong scientific research that backs up the nutritional benefit claims of tiger nuts; it is therefore advised to consume it with caution.
