How to Keep Your Lawns Green

Besides providing a venue for parties and other events, lawns also serve as a cover for the ground preventing soil erosion. They keep dust from collecting on your windows and other places by absorbing them, keeping your house cleaner. Instead of using only pavement for the home, why not consider a lawn instead because they tend to absorb heat better. Lawns also serve as anti-pollutants; they detoxify contaminants like sulfur dioxide and keep the atmosphere clean, green and fresh. Below are tips by Lamudi Ghana on how to keep your lawn looking greener and fresher.

The desire to have a lawn is very key to maintaining a well-manicured one. Lawns do not become green by themselves; they require deliberate nurturing in order not to wilt. Conditions necessary for good and healthy turfs include absence of weeds, availability of water and sunlight. All of these used in the right proportion keep the lawn green. Fertilizer application is important – Nitrogen, Phosphate and Potash are key nutrients needed for grass. These nutrients keep the soil healthy and make the grass healthier and greener. They also make them more disease and insect resistant.

Another way of keeping your lawn more healthy and green is by mowing it regularly. The height of mowing should be at its optimum level – not too short or else the grass may not be able to produce enough food. Grasses draw on the stored food during droughts that is why their height matter. The mower height should not be set more than 2.5 inches.

In the rainy season, ensure that your lawns do not get waterlogged; this can be done by creating drains to ensure the free flow of excess water. In the dry season, like what we are experiencing now, always ensure the soil is moist by keeping a regular watering schedule.
