How to Avoid Clutter in the Living Room

A lot of people dream of owning large homes in Ghana but what happens when your dream house is smaller than what you hoped? Do you pack everything into the space or find a creative way of designing the space? Here are some tips on how to keep your small living room organized:

Furniture – To save space, be mindful of the furniture you buy. The most preferable furniture to choose are the foldable types. There are sofa-beds and tables that can be folded. There are also beds with drawers that can help save space. Avoid smaller pieces of furniture and go for the larger items. You can place the furniture diagonally instead of positioning them in a straight line.

Make sure your room has much light – Open the windows to allow more sunlight into the room. Dark rooms make your space appear smaller than they are. If your room does not have enough windows, switch on the lights in the room because enough lights will make it look bigger.

Put up mirrors in your room – The mirror reflects light which makes the room brighter. You can place the mirror on the wall or make your cabinets and doors reflective.

Avoid brightly colored, overly designed wallpapers, drapes and tablecloths.  Use cool colors instead of very hot ones. Use decorative pieces to enhance the beauty of your living room. Do not put things you do not need in the room. Holding on to old items is one main cause of cluttering in most homes. Ghanaians love junk; the old, dusty painting forever remains on the wall, so does the broken flower vase kept on the table for decoration; old stuff are still kept in the room and this makes space cluttered than they actually are. Dispose these items and your room will look bigger!
