Marriage is a union between two people but what happens to their home décor style when they meet and have to settle on that. This is one of the things most couples battle with right after the vows and honeymoon. It may look easy from the onset but can be more stressful than you can imagine.

Most women believe the home décor style should be solely their decision but the men do have ideas, that is why the couple must work as a team. Ask the men for their opinion before changing the color of the room.

Below are important steps to help newly weds  decorate their home:

  1. Plan – The planning stage is vital. Like planning for the wedding and the honeymoon is important but one area which should be part of the daily conversation is how you want your home to look. Discuss the type of furniture, the paint color for each room, home appliances that need to be purchased among others. This should make shopping and implementing much easier.
  2. Search for ideas – Research and come up with different ideas. The internet has made researching a lot easier. Create a Pinterest account or visit the Lamudi Ghana journal for inspiration. Doing this will enable you to create a more beautiful home.
  3. Build the home together – This can be a complicated process but it can be simplified if a list of items owned by both individuals is made. This will help you avoid double purchasing. For instance, if the lady has a microwave, there is no need to purchase a new one. The list also enables the couple to know the most pressing task to tackle. Create a list.
  4. Work together – Working together can be a lot of fun which can also take the stress from designing the home. Be prepared to scrap certain ideas off the list and adding new ones. Marriage is about learning to agree with each other and this can be enhanced by decorating the new home together.

Decorating the home is a task which can and should be undertaken gradually. Do not be in a haste to get everything together.  Enjoy the process!
