The Return:
Journey Back to the Roots
By Linda A. Annan

the return albumThe smooth, gentle yet powerful tones of The Return is both pacifying and empowering. Euphonic tunes with words hopping on strings of traditional African rhythms are simply a foretaste of its beauty.

The album is a fitting demonstration of Sali's aptitude – the soft, gentle flowing sounds can be said to represent one of a skilled musician.

The nine-track record which combines Kenyan and Tanzanian rhythms highlights her journey as a musician, but more importantly, a female African artist. Despite the fact that almost all the songs are in her native language, one needs not understand anything to enjoy the listen.

The vocals, like lullabies, can easily put one to sleep – in a tasteful way. Her sound is a slight reminder of that of Miriam Makeba's – very serene yet engaging.

This is just a pointer to the fact that Africa still has emerging talents to anticipate. The Return is currently available at cdbaby.
