Become an Obaasema Intern

Obaasema magazine offers a 12-week internship program throughout the academic year and invites ambitious, motivated college students who have chosen careers in journalism to apply. Candidates need not be majoring in journalism/communications provided they possess required skills.

Required student status: Junior, Senior

Hours: Approximately 6 to 8 hours per week;  days flexible

Salary: Unpaid; must receive academic credit

Candidates must be willing to telecommute effectively for the duration of the internship, especially if they live outside of Philadelphia

Requirements for application: Resume, Two (500-800 words) writing samples (at least one feature) and specify area(s) of interest.

To be eligible students must provide a letter from their academic institutions stating that they are receiving credit for the internship and must provide information for person(s) responsible for monitoring internships.  

The program is also open to graduate students.

Students will be expected to write articles to be published during their semester at Obaasema magazine. (The number of features written will be further discussed in the next stage of the appliction process)

Candidates must have writing experience, excellent grammar and proofreading skills, ability to prioritize and work under pressure, ability to think strategically and creatively, ability to write clearly and succinctly, and be able to meet deadlines.
